Swimming with sharks

We spent the morning at our hotel pool relaxing and getting ready for another hot and humid adventure.

This time, we boarded a small boat and sailed off to check out other parts of the island. There was a family of sea lions at the Port to greet us when we got there. One was even rude enough to take up the entire bench. On our way out of the port, we spotted blue-footed boobies sitting on the rocks.

Our first stop was to shark channel to see some shark. Yup, there they were. Next stop, a snorkeling spot and we were told that we would be able to see and swim with hammerhead and galapagos sharks. We were assured that they would not be interested in eating us. Sure enough, at the bottom of the ocean. Just a few feet below us were four Galapagos sharks sleeping in the sand.

After a while of snorkeling, we were led back onto the boat to the girls' chagrin and headed to another part of the island where there was a volcano channel carved that was filled with water, Las Grietes. It was fresh water on top and salt water on the bottom. We hiked up to this area and were surprised by a beautiful swimming area with more fish to see. By this time, Sophie, Zoey, and Lisa were all very happy to be on land for a little bit.

We hiked back through the cactus Forest, among lizards and spiders and crabs and birds and got back onto the boat.
