Cooling Down in the Caves

Israel is having a heat wave, apparently its the hottest it has ever been in 10 years. That limits our activities a bit so today we went to visit the Soreq Cave. My cousin Ori and his two girls joined us, along with Nira, Shmuelik and Shachar. The Reserve encompasses an extensive natural woodland area and the largest and most beautiful stalactites-stalagmites cave in Israel. It was accidentally discovered in 1968 during a quarrying operation in the Judean Hills near Bet Shemesh. After a climb down to the caves, we entered a beautiful room filled with stalagmites and stalactites up to 300,000 years old. We ended the tour, with of course, Chocobo!

The caves are located in a beautiful area in the hills so Nira insisted we eat lunch with a view. Off we went to the outdoor cafe on top of the mountain where all of the children, and myself included, melted into a puddle. We found a table in front of a large fan and ate with the fan as our view. Theo and Shachar bonded over a poker game on their phones and Sophie went in search of a geocache.

From there, we went to visit our cousins in Bet Shemesh. More to come on that...
For now though, Im going to hang the laundry :-) (See I CAN be domesticated)
